Get out your broom, your mop, your scrub brush and squeegee.
Open your windows and let the sweet, fresh air blow in.
It’s time for a little Spring Cleaning.
As my tulips show off their purple petals and the cherry trees shimmer with delicate pink blossoms and the temperatures finally sneak above 60 degrees, I know this is the perfect time to release what’s old, stale and no longer working and shift into something new, fresh and fun.
Especially in your business.
So, here are 3 simple but powerful steps to help you clean out what’s dank and dusty in your business and bring in the intoxicating freshness of spring.
Spring Cleaning Step #1:
Make a list of the things in your business you resent, dread or detest. Those tasks, aspects or routines that drag you down instead of lift you up.
Choose one or two or, if you’re feeling especially daring, three of them.
Then… throw them out! Get rid of them!
Do you have a program or offering that no longer gets you juiced and jumping with joy? Dump it.
Do you resent having to write blog posts? Then don’t. (You really don’t have to write blog posts, you know. There are so many other ways to gain credibility, visibility and connection.)
Or maybe there’s a task you always do that could easily be handed off. To your VA. Or your bookkeeper. Or a freelancer.
Choose at least ONE and get rid of it.
Doesn’t that feel amazing?
Spring Cleaning Step #2:
Make one significant change in your business that will make your clients smile and say “Wow!”
I know you’re already giving your best to your clients, in every way. But is there anything you can shift, change, add or subtract that would make your clients’ eyes pop out with pleasure, surprise and delight? How can you make their experience in working with you more pleasurable?
Or is there a slight tweak or two you could make to increase or speed up the results they get when working with you?
Whatever you choose, it should feel easy, organic and just as thrilling to you as it will feel to your clients.
For instance, if you’re a coach who offers group coaching programs, you could add on a one-on-one coaching session for each client in that program.
Or maybe there’s a tool or two you could include that would make it easier for your clients to get quick results. For instance, if you’re a personal trainer, you could give your clients their own stability ball so they can do their core workout at home. Or if you’re a cooking teacher, you could give your clients their own high quality paring knife.
Another idea is to invite just a handful of your best clients to a special meetup or virtual party where you offer additional support, Q & A or laser coaching.
And fun party favors.
Spring Cleaning Step #3
Make one entirely selfish shift in your business, something that’s just for you.
A long, long time ago, when I was training to be a neuromuscular therapist, I had a mentor who told me that every year, usually at the beginning of the year, she makes one significant change in her business that’s sure to give her more freedom, joy, time or money. One year, she stopped working out of two offices and chose to work solely out of her home office. The next year, she raised her rates and limited her client work to 12 clients a week.
Some of these changes were scary for her. Would all her clients be willing to drive up the long, windy street to her home office? Would she be able to cut back on her client hours and still make the kind of money she wanted?
But she made them anyway. And every time she did, she not only fell more in love with her business, her clients and the work she got to do every day, her business became more profitable.
So… what shift or change can you make this spring that would be just for you? Something that would allow you to experience more pleasure, freedom, joy or peace? Something you’ve been thinking about for a while, perhaps.
It could be something huge, like a shift in focus or an overhaul of your services. Or it could be something less dramatic. Like deciding you’re only going to work a 4-day week.
Whatever you choose, let it be something that makes you say, “Oh, that would be so incredibly wonderful!”
Now, that’s the kind of spring cleaning I like!
