Does the message on your home page have that special “something-something,” that makes your ideal client instantly pull up a chair, fling off her coat and devour every word?
Does your message do a phenomenal job of expressing the brilliance, transformation and unique value you provide?
Or is your home page message a bit… murky, unfocused and maybe even a bit boring?
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reviewing and overhauling home page copy for a few of my clients. And I keep seeing two recurring mistakes that can seriously undermine the power and effectiveness of any home page.
In the video below, I share how to avoid these two mistakes… and how to fix them, now!
The first no-no is…
Stop Speaking to a Crowd
If your home page message is vague, weak or boring, you’re probably trying to talk to too many people at once. Kind of like a politician’s speech, it tries to appeal to everyone and ends up resonating with no one.
You need to craft and hone your message so it speaks to the heart and soul of one person: your ideal client. (tweet that, why don’t ya!) That one someone who embodies the specific characteristics, qualities, values and quirks of your most ideal, most perfect client. That’s who your message is for. That’s the person you need to reach with your words. So, write your home page message to him or her.
This will give your message more focus, energy and power. And you’ll find the language you use will be more specific, colorful and alive.
Spotlight the Core Driving Issue
Now, I know you can help your clients in a lot of different ways.
For instance, if you’re a life coach, you may have the ability to help your client with everything from time management to important career choices to relationship issues. But don’t try to address all those different issues on your home page! Your message will be too scattered, diluted and confusing.
Instead, focus your message on the most urgent, pressing, top-of-mind issue your ideal client is experiencing right now... what I call the core driving issue or problem. What is your client starving for, right now?
What has she been worried about, thinking about, dreaming about and hoping for? That’s what you want to speak to in your home page message. Not every, any, and all possible problems, challenges or desires your client may have. Just that one urgent, driving problem, challenge or desire.
Okay, those are just two quick tips to help you hone your home page message so it jumps off the screen, grabs your ideal clients’ attention and makes them hungry for more.
Remember, one person. One BIG thing. And one amazing solution. That amazing solution is YOU.
So tell me, what one thing do you want to change, or what one thing do you never want to change, about your home page?
Share your one thing below by making and comment, and share your home page link! Let’s get this party started!
