Hey! You!
Lift your head up and look around! I know you’re focused on what’s right in front of you, and good for you! Being focused is a very good thing.
But sometimes, as entrepreneurs, we get so focused on what’s right in front of us (that deadline we need to meet, the client we have to call, that fire we need to put out) that we lose our connection to the people hanging out on the periphery of our awareness. Those clients, friends, family members and colleagues who are important to us but aren’t demanding our most immediate attention.
Take the time to reach out and consciously connect with these folks. It will make such a huge difference in your life and your business.
Just the other day, I emailed a prospective client with whom I’d had a conversation almost three weeks before. I hadn’t heard from her since. So, I sent her a very brief email, acknowledging that I hadn’t heard from her and that I figured she’d found someone else to help her with her email marketing. I wished her well and told her I hoped to hear from her in the future.
Well, I got an email back from her, and it turns out she does want my help. She’d been really sick and a lot of things got pushed to the side while she’s been recovering. I’d never have known if I hadn’t emailed her!
So, here’s your assignment. Pick a time every week, or at least every other week, when you will reach out to those who are hanging out on the periphery of your awareness. Those prospective clients, old friends and colleagues you haven’t heard from in a while. It will be good for your business and good for your soul!
My day to reach out is Friday. Every Friday. What day of the week will you be reaching out to your peripheral tribe? Tell me by leaving a comment below! Let’s support each other in this.
