There is an epidemic going on among creative entrepreneurs and artists. It’s the epidemic of undervaluing.
Way too many of you are severely undervaluing what you have to offer the world. Your gifts, talents, offerings, skill sets are extraordinary, and they allow you to do what you do in a way no one else can do.
Yes, there will always be someone better, faster, splashier and flashier than you. So what. That doesn’t mean that who you are and what you have to offer RIGHT NOW isn’t exceptionally valuable. There is always room to grow, and there always will be. But if you don’t value what you have, now, your growth will be stunted. You will keep yourself small. And you’ll keep taking the crumbs from the table instead of devouring the whole, glorious cake!
Here’s the deal. If you don’t value who you are and what you have to offer, no one else will. And it will be next to impossible for you to communicate the value and benefit of what you offer because you don’t fully believe it! Even if the words you say are perfectly crafted, the energy behind those words will fall flat.
I once a had a client who was a brilliant organizer. She had an innate talent for being able to walk into disarray and quickly figure out what needed to go, what needed to stay, and how to create a perfect organizational system that worked. But when we were working on her marketing message, she was really struggling. We’d come up with some pretty darned good ways to describe what she does and why it’s valuable, but she just couldn’t get behind them, much less speak them out loud.
I asked her what was up with that. What was going on? And she said, “It’s just that what I do is so easy. I don’t understand why anyone would pay me for it.” My mouth dropped open. And I said, “Sweetie, it’s easy for YOU! It comes naturally to YOU! But not to everyone. I can’t walk into a room and know who to organize it. And a lot of people are just like me.”
You, too, probably have an innate talent or skill that is relatively easy for you. It comes naturally. But there are a lot of people who don’t have that skill or talent. And they are more than willing to pay you for it!
But it starts with you recognizing your own value, honoring your talents and gifts, and letting the world know just how fabulous you really are!
