What’s bugging you right now?
Where are you stuck or having a rough time of it?
Are you trying to come up with a new cool offer – like a webinar series, eBook or VIP Day – but you can’t decide what it should be, what to include, or what to call it?
Do you have an issue with a client that’s got you stumped or wondering what to do?
Or maybe you need to write a new sales page. But the words just aren’t flowing for you. And the words you do wrestle onto the page sound dull and lifeless.
Or maybe you’ve got a few phone calls lined up with potential clients. And you’re wondering what to ask or say so they’ll want to work with you.
Whatever is hard, confusing, messy, frustrating, scary or even depressing for you right now relative to your business, I have an all-in-one solution.
Are you ready?
It’s Love.
Yep. Love.
Now, before you roll your eyes and get all squirmy and skeptical, hear me out. And let me show you how Love really does save the day when it comes to almost anything you may be struggling with… especially anything involving your offers, marketing or copy.
For example… let’s use a few of the possible sticky situations I offered above.
Let’s say you are having a hard time figuring out what your new offer should be. Or what to include. Or how to organize it. You come up with one great idea and you feel like it’s a winner. But the next day, you’re not so sure. And 3 days after that, you’re right back where you started from. Unsure and dying for a clear concept.
Call on Love… and watch what happens.
Ask yourself… “What would I love to offer right now? What would feel easy yet exciting? What would allow me to share more of what I love? What would make me so dang excited I wouldn’t be able to stop talking about it?”
Then ask: “What would my ideal client absolutely love? What would make her dizzy with delight and wide-eyed with anticipation, relief and joy if I were to offer it?
Tap into the love you have for your ideal client AND for what you want to do. And let that love and passion guide you in creating your next offer. Ask, listen and let the answers come. And when those answers come, trust them.
It’s amazing how often in our desire to make the right choice and create the most saleable offer we disconnect from the most vital energy and guidance we have – our Love. And then we wonder why something feels off. Or we can’t seem to make a decision and stick with it. Or our offer falls flat. Or it sells like mad only to leave us burned out, resentful and exhausted because we never wanted to offer it in the first place.
Use the questions above to return to Love and that passion you have for both your client and what you love. Let that love and passion guide you… and you can’t go wrong.
A Little Love Story
Many, many years ago, I was performing at a pretty hoity-toity fundraising event. As the time drew nearer for me to go on stage, I got increasingly nervous. I did all the things I knew to do to stay centered, calm my nerves and feel at ease. But nothing was working.
Until a friend of mine came backstage to check on me. She asked me, “Are you okay?” I said, “Yes. Just nervous.” She looked me in the eye and said, “Ah, yes. Well, remember what you love.”
And so I did.
And I remembered that what I love is music… and singing… and performing… and connecting with an audience. And here I was, getting ready to do all of those things I love. But instead of feeling love, I was feeling nervous and fearful.
I quickly reconnected to my deep love for what I was about to do, and the fear vanished. In its place was excitement, eagerness, delight and a bit of mischievous glee as I thought about how I could use my time on stage to connect with my audience, share what I love and have a friggin’ blast.
My performance? It not only went off without a hitch, it was a standing-ovation hit. I was so filled with the energy of Love and my intention to connect that the audience couldn’t help but lean in and become my cohorts in creating a fun, fabulous time.
By focusing on what I love, I immediately slipped into a state of confidence and joy that became contagious.
Now… Back to That Sales Page That Isn’t Going So Well
So… you’re writing a sales page. Or maybe a series of emails. Something that needs to make a compelling, captivating connection without being hyped up and salesy. You’ve been sitting at your computer for hours for the past 3 days and everything you’ve written either falls flat or feels forced and phony.
Here comes Love to the rescue!
Your solution? Stop writing a sales page. Instead, write a love letter. Here’s what I mean.
Bring your ideal client to mind. See her in your mind’s eye and let your heart open to her and her situation. Then, write her a passionate love letter… a letter in which you first make clear that you see her, you know her, you understand what she’s going through. Express your empathy for her situation. Then, use your words to lift her sights to what’s possible: that there can be another way, a real solution, a reliable answer. Just as you would with a friend who’s down in the dumps and can’t see a way through her own darkness.
Then, offer to help. Tell her about what you’ve got cooking and how it could really make a difference right now. Invite her to take advantage of that solution and tell her how she can do that.
Boom! You now have a raw, rough, and totally heart-driven piece of copy you can easily edit down, clean up and format into a non-salesy sales page.
(I’ve got a free webinar coming up next month on how to write “love letters” instead of sales pages so all of your copy makes a powerful, heart-to-heart connection with your ideal client… and you can have a lot more fun writing! If you’re interested in knowing more about this free webinar, just send me an email.)
When you write a love letter instead of a sales page, or a promotional email, you’ll write from a place of love and concern for your client and a place of passion for your work. Your copy will be alive with that passionate, purposeful energy and intention. Your words will make a strong connection with your client. And you’ll liberate your own writing voice, say what you really mean to say, and feel confident in your message.
And if you have upcoming sales conversations scheduled, try this. Rather than bog down your brain by trying to remember what your marketing coach told you about “closing the deal” or leading the conversation, let go of all the pre-fab scripts and rehearsed phrases. Instead, show up with an open heart and the clear intention to listen, be open, be honest and be of service. Let your desire to genuinely connect with your prospective client trump your need to get all the words right. Or even make the sale.
By doing so you will immediately create relationship of trust that will make it easy for your new prospect to give you a wholehearted “Yes” when you invite her to work with you.
Return to Love. Whatever the issue, problem, challenge or uncertainty, rely on Love. Because it won’t lead you astray. And it’s sure to provide clarity, inspiration and some on-the-mark guidance.
Remember who you love: your ideal clients and prospects.
Remember what you love: the work you do, the services you offer, your greater mission, purpose or “big why.”
And if you don’t love what you do right now, can you find a way to love how you do it? Can you do it in a way that lights you up? Let yourself find a path of Love in the midst of tasks or work you hate.
And remember to express your love. Through your marketing and copy. Let all of your marketing simply be a fun and creative way to communicate and connect with those you love around what you love so you can do more of what you love and turn your work into a big love fest!
Okay… that was too much.
But really… can there ever be too much love?
