Do you set an intention when you’re about to meet someone or before you go to a conference or business-related event? Before you pick up the phone to call someone, do you set your intention for that call?
Or do you just move forward without getting clear on what you want, how you want to feel or what you want to have?
Hey, I’ll be honest with you. That’s what I used to do. I would go to big conferences across the country without really taking the time to get specific and clear about what I wanted to get out of that experience. I would just go, and whatever happened, happened.
But now I realize the power of setting a clear intention before I take action of any kind. It lines up the energy and helps me be receptive to whatever it is I’m wanting from that experience.
For instance, right now, I’m in Stamford, Connecticut for a 2-day event with Fabienne Fredrickson. During the 2-hour drive it took to get here, I got clear on what I wanted to get out of this event. In other words, I set my intention for how I wanted to feel, what I wanted to have and what I wanted to do.
I call these the BE.HAVE.DO intentions.
I love this 3-dimensional intention setting because it allows me to get clear on what I want on all levels of experience.
For instance, during this 2-day event, my intention is to:
BE: open. I just want to feel open to receive whatever great information or revelations may come my way. I also want to be open to the people I meet here.
HAVE: more clarity around the direction of my business, and a sense of community.
DO: participate fully, and have fun!
Now, you try it. Rather than focusing on just one aspect of an experience, I invite you to get clear on how you want to BE (or feel), what you want to HAVE (or get out of it), and what you want to DO (what specific action you want to take or what opportunity you want to create).
This week, try setting your intentions before you enter a meeting or make a phone call or even have a talk with your spouse. Take a moment and get clear on what you want, how you want to feel, what you want to do or say, how you want it to turn out and what you want to have when it’s over.
There is great power in setting an intention. You are pre-paving the way to have the experience you want, rather than being buffeted about by the random energies of the Universe OR someone else’s intentions. You are lining up your own energy, setting up a degree of anticipation that things are sure to go your way… and that’s when they often do!
Try it this week. Have fun with it! And let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below!
